Overwintering Equipment

GET READY FOR WINTER - WITH WATER WORKS PONDS.

The end of summer is time to think ahead about your koi and goldfish during thewinter. Should the fish be brought indoors during the winter or left outside in the pond? There are pros and cons for both over wintering methods. The team at WaterWorksPonds will be happy to help determine which option is best for you.

There is currently not a recognized over wintering program for our zone three climate. Majority of the information available in magazines or the internet pertains to the milder winter of the Northern United States where majority of the market demand is for winterizing pond equipment. By provincial code most ornamental ponds in Alberta areless than 24 inches deep.

Over the years, WaterWorksPonds has experimented with over wintering koi and goldfish outdoors.
With trial and error comes experience. First hand experience that you and your pond fish can benefit from.

Pondmaster Aerators help oxygenate pond water which promotes healthier fish
and aquatic life. Proper Aeration during the winter season will also help breakdown fish
waste and cut a honeycombed hole through ice as it covers the pond. This in turn will
release gases poisonous to over wintering fish. The pulling action of the bubble curtain
to the surface will also provide better circulation of warmer water at the bottom of
the pond.
